It is a legal requirement to notify your local authority Building Control department. HOWEVER,
In England and Wales, when you use a specialist stove installer who is registered on the HETAS competent persons scheme there is no need for time-consuming and expensive Building Control notification. We will be able to issue a Building Regulations compliance certificate and register this with HETAS. HETAS is the official body recognised by the Government to approve wood burning and solid fuel domestic heating appliances. We are HETAS registered.
The Stove Industry Alliance (SIA)
The SIA is an association of stove manufacturers and distributors, wood fuel suppliers, flue and glass manufacturers and industry supporters like HETAS and Kiwa.
With 40 members, it is able to represent the stove industry with government departments such as DEFRA and BEIS. DEFRA, BEIS and the chair of the Select Committee on the Environmental Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee see the SIA as the voice of the industry.
